In August 2003 Mark Hunter, 'Shunter' for those who knew him, launched the first website for the Northern Ireland Tai-Jutsu Association and began a rebrand of Tai-Jutsu that continued for the next ten years long after he left us.
The very first nitja.org was a mixture of information about the style and a series of forums that centralised the enthusiasm of the Tai-Jutsu student-base that hadn’t been seen before. We were able to wear the dragon outside the mats with new t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, fleeces, and kit bags. The newly formed NITJA demo team toured every fare, sports hall, seminar and shopping centre it could find to promote and spread the Tai-Jutsu name.
At Tai-Jutsu we’re incredibly fond of Mark and everything that he did to bring the style into this milenium. A small part of his legacy is that the style you see today has the image it has, and everyone wearing the dragon on his or her chest feels his influence.
Today we couldn’t attempt to deliver everything that Mark did back in the early 2000’s, but we feel that over ten years later it's time for a refresh, so now we present a revamped Northern Ireland Tai-Jutsu Association website. Here you'll find all the information you need on what the style is, our clubs & history, what’s happening today, and how to get in contact.
In some small way we’ve tried to refresh our brand; you can also find a newly produced promotional video for the Queen’s Tai-Jutsu club here on Youtube, and a new line in t-shirts, sweatshirts & hoodies.
These updates are intended to build on the work that Mark began in 2003. We hope that we do him proud.
Thank-you Mark, we miss you.
